Looking for possible destinations for our honeymoon

Hey all,

As I said before James and I are dreaming of a wedding holiday on a tropical Island. Of course this requires quite the amount of money, so it’s good to surf the web for possibilities. And that’s exactly what I’ve done  I’ve been looking with Google and I found a very nice site called Hotel Reservations. I won’t book immediately without haven a good look around, so I started my search there.

Looking for a nice trip
I have a couple of ideas on where I’d like to go. Right now I’m looking for a holiday somewhere in July, because James would like to get married then. To be honest I doubt if this can still be arranged at the moment, but we’ll just see 
Anyway, one of the places I’d like to go is Hawaii. This island seems to very nice, so I decided to see what Hotel Reservations has to offer. I’ve seen something on television about Maui, so that’s the first place I started to look. On the site it’s pretty easy to look for a good offer. You can easily start with the map they have. You just pick the country where you want to go, then the state, and as a final step you pick the city where you’d like to travel. In this case it was Maui. Once you’ve done that you have to pick a traveling date. Then you’re presented with the Hotel reservations they can offer. You’ll get, depending on the destination, a great variety of hotels. You can choose from quality and price and more! This is one of the easiest selection methods I’ve come across!

The Price
The price I was offered, is €312,90 per night. They state you can save up to 70%, so this I wanted to check out. I googled on one of the hotels I was offered (it was actually a resort) and saw the website from the Resort. That’s always worth a shot, right? Guess what, I couldn’t even book the hotel at the wanted dates anymore from them. I still could book it with Hotel Reservations though. But of course this doesn’t give me the opportunity to check the prices, so I decided to look further.

I searched a bit more through Google and found prices varying from € 550,- per night to € 700,- per night. So they are indeed competitive. But not up to the 70% in this case. I think that’s something which depends on your destination. But the difference is a pretty amount!

More possibilities
The price I gave you above is of course the price for a basic room (for which I, btw, made all the comparisons!). They have more possibilities too. For the Resort I was looking into, they could offer me 14 different kind of rooms / studios / apartments. You’ll have a great selection! And mind you, I’m talking about a four class hotel with features like landscaped grounds with ponds, streams and waterfalls, complimentary buffet-style continental breakfasts and an expansive water park with a free form aquatic playground, a 120-foot water slide and an adults-only pool deck. On top of that they have a lot more! Have a look at the aquatic playground!

Other booking possibilities
Besides having multiple hotel / resort booking opportunities with a very good quality, you can also book packages with Hotel Reservations. I wanted to see what I would be offered there, so here’s what I chose:
* Flight
* Hotel
* Car
* Leaving from Amsterdam (Netherlands), going to Maui
* 1 room, with two adults
I was given a lot of opportunities for a reasonable price! Tot op it, I could also include activities, ranging from tour sightings and water activities to even Weddings! Hmmmmmmm, now that’s interesting!!!!

Concluding
I totally forgot to check for other locations, but I am very enthusiastic about this site. Of course I can’t "just" arrange everything on my own, but this is very interesting. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it and perhaps discuss it James.
I can really say this is one of the better sites I’ve seen for booking vacations and hotels! Go check them out!

Received free gift from Scrap-a-Ganza!

Hey all,

My free gift from Scrap-a-Ganza arrived today! It's a very nice package, although I haven't got the slightest idea what to do with it at the moment. It's all pink as you can see! James and I don't have children, I'm not really pink minded and my scrap studio is in nature colors, more specific in green. Making a pink album about my scrap studio is not something I like....... Oh well, I'll find a solution!

Talk to you later!

Thanks for all you comments & sick at home.....

Hey all,

I want to thank you all for the nice comments! I really loved them! I'm really enjoying getting to know new people through the Photo Hunt. And you're all so talented!

Right now I'm sick at home. This time I'm sick with the Flue. I could have known...... James was sick a few weeks ago. He was sick for four days. I just hope I can get "back to work" tomorrow. I should have started a course yesterday. This course would take up four days this week (morning part, afternoon part and evening part). Two more days should be done in May and two more in June. After that's there's a wrap up in July. So, I really need to get going. Otherwise the next one I can follow is in September....... I just hope.........

Talk to you later!

What did I scrap this week (#2)?

Hey all,

As I told you last week, I want to record what I scrapped every week. So here's part 2. I've done quite some scrapping and I'm very pleased with it. Here's an overview.

  • I've searched for ideas for interactivity in my projects (hidden journaling, hidden photos). I've found a few ideas from Karen Burniston, as I stated earlier.
  • I've finished the two-page layout for the workshop "Weather comes to mind" or "Seasons" (as Karen calls it herself). All that's left to do now is to add the photos. That will have to wait until Scrap-a-Ganza is finished. I intend to use one photo transfer (to packing tape) on this layout. I think it's a fun technique. I've never tried it before, but I've seen examples in several books. I'm going to try this with a few old photos first, before I'm going to do it with a SAG photo :) I've included several interactive things in these layouts. You've already seen one of them as a sneak-peek. I've also included two inserts for the envelopes. One of these inserts is meant for photos of the end result. The other is meant for photos from the class and journaling about it.
  • I've finished the Weekend schedule layout for my Scrap-a-Ganza album. I've included one interactive item here.
  • I've made tabs for all the layouts in my Scrap-a-Ganza Album. I've used the Pen Tip font again and printed everything on paper. I've glued the paper to a transparency. After that I adhered the set to proper pages.
  • I've finished the inside front cover.
  • I've finished the layouts and inserts for our trip TO Scrap-a-Ganza.
  • I've been trying out some new interactivity ideas. There fun to do. I'll show the results later on!
  • I've been testing the fibers / ribbons in jars.

Well, that's it for last week!

You wanna play along? Write your list on your blog and leave a comment here or include your entire list here in the comment!

I'm looking forward to your scrap results! Talk to you later!

Scrap-a-Ganza Album: Sneak-Peeks for Saturday

Hey all,

I've got a few Sneak-peeks from my Scrap-a-Ganza album especially for you. I'm not gonna show all the pages in their entirety, but I thought it would be nice to show a few extra things!

This is the album I've made seen from the below side:
I guess it's obvious that the pages and the covers together are too much for the book screws. Once I have all the pages finished and I know how thick the book really is, I'm going to look for new book screws or an alternative way of binding it. Maybe the hardware store has something I can use!

This is something I've made on the inside front cover. I'm not telling you yet what it is. You may guess for now. Just leave YOUR best guess in the comments! I will tell you this: I had stamped one letter on this thing and once I started pasting the other letters (they're stickers) I found out I had left to little space for the last letter. That's why it's dangling on the ribbon under the word. I think it's fun to see. And because the things I've pasted the letters on is.... thicker (I'll give you a hint: I need to put a few things in it), the "s" really bungles instead of being fixed. What do you think of it?

Here's I've described something. Can you guess what it is? And why is the photo turn there. Give you best guess in the comments! I'll give you one hint: It's not "just" as an embellishment. Any ideas? I'll just hear it then :)

And last but not least, this is one thing I'm particular proud of! I've thought of it myself and figured out how to make it myself. This is so much fun. Can you guess what it is?

It so much fun, working on this album. I am glad I have the book "Pockets, Pullouts and Hiding Places" because this really gives me ideas for interactive things in my album. If you'd like to have it, go to Amazon. I've found it so very useful! You'll find many great idea, like library pockets used in a whole new different way, pull outs you'd never thought about and much more! And don't forget the detailed instructions that comes with every example and the perfect templates in the back of the book. I'm so glad I bought it! And I'm so glad I asked Karen Burniston last year during Scrap-a-Ganza if she'd have suggestion for books about interactive things. She's the one who recommended this book to me. And she's attributed to this book! It's wonderful!

Well, this is it for now. I hope you enjoyed the sneak-peeks I gave you. Let me know what you thought I've made! Talk to you later!

Waiting for SAG - registration gift & Contests

Hey all,

I'm waiting for my SAG - registration gift to arrive. My mom already received it. I hope it will go alright this time, instead of last times :). In the last e-mail the SAG-team sent, they stated you could ask for the status, so I did. I hope they can send it soon.

In the e-mail they also said there are at least two contests:
#1 Can you brag about it? Sure.

Free gift contest. Let us see your nearest and dearest in your brag book. We love these brag books! It's a great way to keep those photos you want to show off in a scrapping kind of way, plus they stay protected in that highly fashionable leather album. So much fun.
You see why I can't wait for the free gift? Although I've seen two version (Blue & Pink) of the gift and I'm not sure I'd use it. Therefore I just need to see everything first. Maybe I can use it with photos from James. I'll just have a look :)

#2 Scrap Space & Obsessions contest

WANTED: Scrap room and scrapbooking obsessions! We want to see your scrap rooms and scrapbook obsessions; we want you to create a scrapbook layout / project that shows us your scrapping space. The rules are we want to get to know the scrappers behind the person. Are you a tidy scrapper, are you super organized? Is your craft room a total mess? Do you have an obsession with ribbon or paper? We want to see the extremes of your hobby. We will have 15 prizes to give away to the most extreme scrappers. You will to submit your layout / project upon registration, so that they can be displayed during the weekend
Well, you've all seen my scrapstudio. If you haven't, take a look here and tell me what you think to answer to the above stated questions. I'm just curious what you think :). I always meant to make a little mini album about my Scrap studio (with before and after pictures), so now is the perfect time to do this. At least, once my Scrap-a-Ganza album is finished. That first, then the rest............ I already have ideas, though:) If you'd like to share ideas on what I should / could do in my mini album about my scrap studio, let me know! I'm very fond of sharing ideas!

To top it all, SAG announced there will be more contest, but "they'll keep their POKER FACES on about it". I guess this has something to do with Heidi Swapp, as she has something new with cards. I'm curious!

Photo Hunt Theme 54: Steps

Hey all,

I'm participating in the Photo Hunt for the first time! The theme for this week is Steps. Now, you can see this theme in many things. I chose for photos I've used in one of my Italy Layouts. It's about the Tower of Pisa. The day we visited Pisa it was very hot. Although I would have liked to see the view from the top of the tower, I decided no to go, because the tower had several hundreds of steps and I was just not going to take these. So, although you don't actually see any steps on this photo, the whole picture does include the theme for me!

Here's the layout I've made:

And this is the LO with the flap open:

Have Fun!

If you want to know who participates in this hunt, have a look here. If you'd like to participate, please go here.

New feature: "Font download"-Tuesday

Hey all,

A few days ago I browsing through my Fonts and saw I had hundreds of fonts. I think it's fun to share some of them with you every week (except when I'm on a holiday!). That's why I've started this new feature: Font download - Tuesday.

In this first download I want to share two fonts with you which I'm currently using in my Scrap-a-Ganza Album. It's Pen Tip and Walt Disney 1.4. You can download them here. Just click the link and the download will start automatically. Have fun! Don't forget to show what you did with the font!

From New York to Paris....... According to Google directions

Hey all,

On another blog Asara's Mental Meanderings I found a great thing!:
1. Go to google.com.
2. Click on Maps.
3. Click on Get Directions.
4. From: New York, New York.
5. To: Paris, France.
6. Click Get Directions again.
7. Then, read line #23.
8. Laugh.

Personally, since I'm living in the Netherlands, I don't have to undertake this adventure. Otherwise, hmmmmm......................... swimming. Intersting option. If I only had a few weeks or months off for this adventure........

I think someone with Google has a great sense of humor!

What's your opinion on this?

Hall of Famers & Creating Keepsakes & New design from Karen Burniston

Hey all,

This morning I was browsing the Creating Keepsakes site for the Hall of Famers. I'm impressed by the work the 2007 winners have done! It's really amazing! I hope I'll be able to participate in the Hall of Fame contest once. In the rules it says:

Contest is open to all who are legal residentsof the United States, Canada (Excluding Quebec), England and Wales, including contributors to Creating Keepsakes magainze and winners of previous contests sponsored by Creating Keepsakes magazine except winners of previous Scrapbook Hall of Fame Contests.......
Okay, granted, I'm not a USA resident, not Canadian, English or from Wales. But I hope one day my work will be published in Creating Keepsakes and that will make me a contributor, right? So, would that mean I could participate? Oh well, let's think about when I'm actually published there :)

It is too bad though, that the Creating Keepsakes (and other contest as well) are usually only for the residents of USA and Canada. I'd like to participate in these contests, but I'm not able to....... Oh well, I can only hope such a thing will one day be done here in the Netherlands.

Creating Keepsakes
Talking about being published in Creating Keepsakes, you know I submitted Italy Layouts for the Italy call, do you? Unfortunately I haven't heard anything, so I guess I didn't make it. Too bad. Maybe next time.......

New designs by Karen Burniston
I'm working on the Scrap-a-Ganza album again and I needed the supplies list for the Weather comes to Mind workshop. So I went to Karen's site and I found that she has some new interactive designs again! I love the Flip-Flop Summer Layout. Just look at the flip-flop on the right side. It's lovely and so funny! It really gives that {little} something extra for someone who's looking at your layout. And to top that, it gives you the possibility to add extra photos and journaling. That's wonderful!
I think I might give it a try myself, albeit without the description. It is something for advanced people {according to the site}, but somehow it seems familiar to me. It looks a bit like the Tag pull out book she used. So this might be something I'll do in my Switzerland album. Or maybe even sooner, in my Scrap-a-Ganza album, but I'm not sure about that yet.
One more new layout she's made is the "Inner Circle". I love the way she shows the possibility to pull out extra flaps out of the circle. And she managed to make it in a way that the flaps are stopped to prevent them from sliding out all the way. Beautiful! This is one I'm not sure of if I would be able to figure it out myself. Oh well, I'll think about that later on......

First, let's get back to the SAG album. I hope to be able to finish the "Weather Comes to Mind" workshop pages and the Weekend Schedule Page. When I've finished those two, I want to continue with my Switzerland Album. As I said in the beginning of my holiday I hoped I would be able to finish our Switzerland album before I have to get back to work. Right now I highly doubt I will have finished it, but I'll see........

New idea: "What did you scrap this week"-Sunday

Hey all,

While surfing the net and exploring blogs I came across several funny things, like Thursday Thirteen, Friday Five and more things like that. Basically it all comes down to making a list of a few things. Well, I'm pretty good at MAKING list, but actually FOLLOWING them is whole other story. So I thought I could make a list, but not something to follow, but instead about things I've done (like those other lists are). I've decided to call this list: "What did you scrap this week?" And I'll post it every Sunday.
Many lists are based on a certain number (like five or thirteen). This list is not based on such a thing. It's just a list of things I've scrapped. After all, sometimes I'll just have scrapped one or two things and sometimes I may have scrapped a whole lot of things. So it can vary!

Since I'll make this list every Sunday (except when I'm away on a holiday!) I hope this will encourage me (and maybe you?) to scrap more. I do have so many plans for scrapping and it would be a shame if they'd all go to waist, wouldn't it?

So here goes. This week I've scrapped:

  • 24 forum friendship cards with six different designs. I've chosen six different flower photos for the back of the cards. I've stick with the same front. That was a bit easier for me. All I need to do now is add the photos from me. Once I have added those, I'll show you the cards.
  • I've made the schedule for my SAG-album. I want to include a schedule of everything we do that weekend. I was looking for ways to do that. I've finally decided to make a schedule with Corel Paint Shop Pro. And it worked out cool! I've found a very nice font (Pen Tip) which I used and now everything seems very neat when I print it. You can view the schedule here.
  • I've made a description for the "Weather comes to Mind" workshop. I've also done this in Corel. I've used the fonts Pen Tip and Walt Disney Script 1.4. You can view it here

Well, that's it for last week!

You wanna play along? Write your list on your blog and leave a comment here! (If you don't have a blog, you're always welcome to put your list in your comment here!!!)

I'm looking forward to your scrap results! Talk to you later!

Me and my overweight

Hey all,

As you'll probably know I'm still fighting my overweight. Yesterday I happened to see the Tyra Show here in the Netherlands and they had an episode about overweight. There was this coach, Jorge (don't know his last name) and he has written a book with his 3-hours diet. This means you have to eat every three hours to keep your bloodsugar at a good point. And of course you must not eat fast food, candy and more like that. Know, you have to eat healthy. He stated it's not a diet like many other diets where you have to eat certain things and don't eat other things based on some theory. No, this is about changing your lifestyle and thus your eating habits. I've given it a thought and I think this may indeed work. That's why I'll give it a try. Seen the hours I'm usually getting up this would mean the following schedule for me:
Weekends:
07:30h (breakfast)
10:30h (eat something, like a part of my lunch)
13:30h (eat something, like a part of my lunch)
16:30h (eat something, like an apple)
19:30h (diner)
Rest of the week:
06:00h (breakfast)
09:00h (eat something, like part of my lunch)
12:00h (eat something, like part of my lunch)
15:00h (eat something, like an apple)
18:00h (diner)

I think I'm gonna try this schedule for a month. Let's see if I can keep up with it. And if it works (even if it's just a little bit).

If I can rely on the pictures of the guests in the show I could loose a pretty amount of weight in about six months and later on I could reach my ideal weight. Well, for now I just hope to have lost a few kilo's in about a month. That would be nice.

Lucky for me I have another week for a holiday, so that's a good time to try it out. After the coming week I'll have a full week of classes (to become a job coach) so I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow the schedule. I'll see about that. After that week I'll continue my job again, so that's going to be the real test. Can I keep up then? I hope so!

I'll keep you posted! Talk to you later!

The "verdict" from the vet

Hey all,

Now we know for sure what Whiskey has. She has a cancer tumor. Now we stand for the terrible choice:
Do we let the vet operate her and remove her uterus or do we let her go to sleep? the expectation is that she will fully recover, but due to her age (she's 7 now) she'll probably have a year, maybe two, left to live. Rabbits of her size usually get about 6 - 8. It's a hard decision. The operation will be stressful for her (as is any operation, just like with us) and {and yes, we do have to look at that aspect too} it will cost a considerable amount of money (somewhere between € 100,- and € 150,-) so it's not nothing.
On the other hand, right now she has a chance of a full recovery (the cancer hasn't spread to her lungs and that's a huge good thing!). And of course, suppose we'll put her to sleep, we still have her sister (Irish). And we already know Irish hated the fact that Whiskey wasn't there for a few days (when she was in quarantine inside our house and with the vet). So what will it do to her if we'll put Whiskey to sleep.

So, it's a tough decision we have to make. The vet will come some time this afternoon to talk a bit more about the options and everything that comes with it. And then James and I have to decide what to do this evening. It's not something I'm really looking forward to...........

Talk to you later.

Blogging and money making

Hey all,

I told you before I have a few dreams to fulfill with the money I earn with blogging. So far I've been paid out about $30,- for a few posts. The ads seem to do hardly anything, unfortunately. Maybe they will do better in the future :) So, it's not an incredible income (good idea NOT to give up my fulltime dayjob *grin*) as for now. I hope it will get better in the future. So, that's why I decided to dig a little deeper into the subject and to see what tips I can find which can be useful for me, and maybe for you too.

1. Start looking for "high income" bloggers
If you want to start anywhere, start with a blog from someone who claims to have a high income through blogging. It's not a guarantee that you'll find something useful for you, but you'll never know. Just look for tips they display and see if you can find the same things. Maybe you can use their tips / subjects in YOUR blog as well. I found the website from Darren Rowse. If it's all truth what he states on his blog, we can only hope that one day we'll be able to do the same! Browse his site and try out a few things!

2. Define for yourself how far you are willing to go
With programs like Pay per Post and Blogsvertise you'll get lots of opportunities and it is tempting to use whichever you can to make money. But if you're not careful you'll probably end up having a blog filled with only posts helping you to make money, but nothing about the subject you started your blog for. And that's not what you want to happen. After all, you have several readers who come to your blog because of the subject you originally choose. So try to stick to that, or any other subject you choose to blog about. Just keep it close to your self. If you don't feel comfortable talking about gambling, debts, loans and more things like that, then don't! Set yourself some parameters.

3. Try out new things
If you see something on someone else's blog, don't hesitate to check it out to see if it's something you can use! It's not like the blog you saw it first at has the sole right to this method.......

4. have fun!
My motto for scrapping applies here perfectly well: Have Fun! If you're not having fun anymore, then stop it.

Now that I have shared my basic tips, let's look at how everything is working out for me. I've made several posts based upon Pay Per Post or Blogsvertise opportunities. This is always interesting to do. However, I do keep close to what I believe in. You'll find no posts about dating sites, loans, credit cards, gambling sites and more things like here on my blog. Although I know there are several opportunities on these subjects, I do think these just don't fit me nor my blog.

I've also included ads by Google Adsense. This is interesting, but you have to know how it works. I'm looking for tips on improving the results for this. I've decided to not only include ads in my sidebar, but also under every post. Because they are related to scrapbooking and other things my blog is about, I don't mind it. When I find out more and more ads are about different things, not related to me or my blog, I'll remove the whole thing from my blog. Now, is it working for me? To be honest, at the moment I haven't made a dime with AdSense. I hope I'll make some money with this last change I've made.

As for trying out new things, if I happen to come across something which I think is worthwhile, I'll definitely use it. I keep on looking for new interesting things, subjects and sort, just for the fun of it! My main goal for this blog is having a journal for myself. If, in this process of journaling, I happen to make money with it, that's nice and fun. If I don't, too bad........

Well, these were my two cents on it. What's your experience?

Sneak Peek for Scrap-a-Ganza Album

Hey all,

Although it will be still several more weeks before Scrap-a-Ganza actually happens and before I can really show you my entire album, I thought I'd give you a few sneak peeks. These are all from a layout about the workshop "Weather comes to Mind" (or Seasons) with Karen Burniston. I'll tell you all about it later on!

Thanks for looking!

Pay per post does: Largest Blog Comment Chain World Record Attempt

Hey all,

Believe it or not, but Pay per Post is trying to get 2,000 unique Human (so no bots!!!) comments on their blog post. I think it's a truly remarkable thing. As they say, no one has ever tried this before. It is known that blogs have had over 200 and 500 comments per post, but 2,000? Imagine this would be worthwhile for the Guinness Book of World Records! I can't imagine that it would come into that. Will they ever be able to receive that many unique comments? On the other hand it would be great to be a part of such an endeavor! So, here goes! It would be a great thing, wouldn't it? And just for the heck of it, I'm going to participate in this adventure. Come on in and join us all in the worldly undertaking! I sure know I would be impressed big time if we, all of us, would succeed in this job. Knowing to be a part of such a thing is wonderful. I’ve already read several comments and many people are willing to give this a try. Work on it, people, and deliver your contribution to this job! Become part of one of the greatest things the Guinness Book of World Records has ever seen!

How to scrap more in 2007?

Hey all,

Through Mad Cropper's Site I found the site from Scrappin' Moms. Ria has wrote a wonderful article there, called How to scrap more in 2007. She has 15 wonderful tips on this subject. I've included Ria's tips here under. I'll give my reaction to them per tip.

1. Edit and print pictures in batches

I try to schedule editing time every week. With 3 kids, I need to edit at least this often. I have decided not to play around with different sized pictures and sticking to the standard 3r, 4r and 5r sizes. Focal point pictures will be in 5R, and supporting pictures will be in wallet sizes. I will choose my pictures carefully and print only what I intend to scrap. The pictures are my main inspiration, so as long as I know I have great pictures to scrap, I will be in the mood to scrap.
I couldn't agree with her more. Since I'm still about 1,5 year behind with pictures {I found out that the photos from the zoo in Emmen - "Dierenpark Emmen" - are from 1,5 years ago) I'll only order prints for a project I'm going to work on that moment. Okay, granted, I'm working on two different projects right now and I have the photos printed for a third project. Here's the deal: I want to be able to continue scrapping while I have a scrapper's block. So therefore I want to have photos for two projects at hand. That's why I edited and ordered prints of the photos from Switzerland and from Dierenpark Emmen. So far I have been working on the Switzerland photos and it's going quite well. And it so happens I wanted to make a planner for Scrap-a-Ganza before the actual event so that I could have teacher sign it and so that I could immediately journal everything. That's looking ahead, right? The photos from the zoo in Emmen will have to wait for now. But, I haven't edited or printed the photos from Diergaarde Blijdorp where we went a week ago. Yeah me!!!

2. Organize your supplies

in a way that makes sense to you. I tend to think by color and I’m familiar with the different brands’ collections so my papers are organized this way. My embellishments are organized by theme – Christmas, Disney, girls, boys, babies, love, etc. Alphabets are kept together – stickers and rub-ons in a clear folder, while 3d alphas – chipboard, metal, plastic -- are in one drawer.
As you probably know, I have done that when I have reorganized in my Scrapstudio! Right now everything is just the way I like it and easily available. I'm convinced I'll make better layouts this way and I'll finally use all the embellishments I have!

3. Schedule your scrapping time

I’m lucky enough to have a scrap room so I can leave pending projects on my desk and come back to it several times during the day, in between taking my kids to school, picking them up and taking them to their various activities. I used to have an officemate who would wake up early to read the Bible and put herself in the right perspective for the day. I’m thinking that if I were working, I’d probably do the same – recharge by scrapping.
Okay, I totally lack at that. Maybe it's an idea to really do this for myself. Right now I just grab any possibility I get - which works at the moment - but having a scheduled time might be better. Okay, I have to be honest, I do have a few scheduled times: when my mom and Bianca come to crop, like next Sunday. It's on average every two weeks. But I should find some time to just scrap by myself. Maybe I'll use the Wednesday evening (lousy TV anyway) and Friday morning or afternoon, just what fits. That way I'll certainly make a few things.

4. Keep scrap magazines and books near you.

Although I have a scrap room, my magazines are in my bedroom, so that on a lazy day, I can easily and quickly run through them and pick-up ideas. When I bring my kids to their activities, I always bring a magazine with me to read during “waiting time”.
I've made that sure! I've roamed through the magazines a lot lately, while I was looking for interactive ideas! All I need to do to be able to read them is stand up and step one step aside and there they are, all neatly ordered :). I've heard from people who have thrown away old issues from magazines. I can't imagine myself doing that (now that's an issue!!!). I can find new ideas regularly in those magazines. And although the papers are extinguished, doesn't mean the sketch can't be used!

5. Attend the EBs

This is a day dedicated to scrapping without household duties interrupting. My husband knows this is sacred to me and willingly takes over the kids during this time.
Okay, if someone could explain what EB's are? I have no idea. I do understand what she's saying, though. Make time for your scrapbooking, get some "ME"-time in your busy life and spend it scrapping! But how to do that while we both have an (almost) full time job? That would leave the Friday and the weekend for me. And as I'm looking for a new job right now, this wouldn't come in handy either. Oh well, at least I can use the Friday morning or afternoon. That will give me something :) The weekend is also something for the both of us and to do grocery shopping and more. Oh, right. Once every two weeks I do have such a day as Ria describes. So in a way I do have it.......

6. Multi-task

scrap during the news or your favorite TV show.
Hmmm, I'm not too sure about that. I usually want to pay close attention to everything I'm doing while scrapping. And when I'm watching my favorite television series I want to pay full attention to that too. So I don't think this is something you'll find me doing anytime soon.

7. Keep a journal to write down your ideas

I just started keeping a journal to write down poems and quotes that I would like to use in my future layouts. I’ve also listed some album ideas in my journal. On the front of my journal is the phrase “Create Everyday” and at the back is a quote that says “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
I have a sketch book. And I jot down ideas whenever I can. And it's not only journaling I write (heck, I can use this journal for that), I also jot down ideas for sketches, ideas for themes for albums, ideas for making albums and more. When I'm at work I'll just take a paper that's easily reachable and afterwards I'll put the paper in my bag. That I have jotted down the idea and I'll have it when I'm home. And putting my sketch book on my desk for this purpose? I don't think so!
BTW, I love the quotes she's used!!!!

8. Give yourself a time limit to finish your LO

Some people allow themselves an hour, 3 hours, etc for a LO. Since I rarely get to work on a LO without interruptions, I tend to finish a LO in 2 days. Sometimes I’m tempted to try to be superwoman and make the perfect LO, but God only knows how much backlog I have. So most of the time, I force myself to stop and move on to another LO.
Hmmm.... Not going there for now. I will lay away an LO when I can't seem to finish it, but I won't consider it "done". I will continue with a new LO until I've found the "perfect" idea for the previous LO. And if I do have the complete idea of how I want the LO to be, I won't stop until it's finished. Albeit that it takes me one hour or three days. I don't really care.

9. Scraplift

Everyone has done it, even me. The definition of scraplift is getting blurrier by the second, as rarely is an idea a true original, most are “inspired by” other layouts.
That's why my sketch book and all the magazines come in handy. This way I can make a layout while I'm otherwise completely stuck. I don't mind to use other's ideas. If they're good, why not use them? And since the photos and materials are never (exactly) the same, the layouts will be different in the end, no matter what!

10. Follow a sketch

This is a good way to jump-start your LO. Since I’m a very linear person, sketches remind me to use circles and other angles in my layouts.
I'll do that when I'm out of my own ideas. Since I'm using a lot of photos normally, I can't use all the sketches, but they'll give me basic ideas......

11. Use coordinated kits

Although I am now getting up the courage to mix and match different papers, I still prefer to start with a coordinated set of pps. Only when I feel that the set is lacking a certain color or feel, do I go to the rest of my stash to find a match. It helps that I know my papers (maybe too well), so I usually know which brand/collection to choose from.
Well....... usually I'll use solid papers. I'm not that much into using patterned papers. Mixing solid colors is easy, at least the way I see it. The problem comes with using patterned papers. Usually I'll think they're too busy for my oh so many photos I want to include in that one layout. But I have set my self a challenge for this year to try and use patterned papers anyway. And I think this will result in using coordinated kits and mixing up papers as well. This is really going to be a challenge, but I've taken my first with using the Urban Couture kit from Basic Grey in my SAG album.

12. When in doubt, start cutting or tearing

Often times I find myself arranging and re-arranging the elements of my LO repeatedly and getting nowhere fast. When this happens, I pick up the paper that I love most (there’s usually one paper that I fall in love with and get hooked on for a particular LO) and start tearing or cutting. Then I find that everything falls into place, or if it doesn’t, there’s always a way to patch up a blunder.
When you're using solid papers, like me, this isn't really a challenge. I think it will become a challenge for me when I really start using patterned papers. But we'll see!

13. Simplify

There are so many materials and techniques to choose from out there. I try to stick to one technique per LO, and a few key embellishments. I like to try new things but not all at the same time.
This is exactly the way I work! Although I usually don't use (many) embellishments! But as far as the technique goes, I'll stick to one new thing at a time. That will take enough time already!

14. Have a goal.

Mine is 3 layouts a week – but I’m a SAHM with too much stuff, for others it might be only one each week, or every 2 weeks.
Well, as you can see on the right handside, I have set myself a goal for a year: 24 layouts for this year. This means an average of two layouts per month. Mind you, a layout can be a one-page layout or a two (or more) layout. With this goal I'm talking about the layouts, so not the pages. And I'm slowly getting there. I've already finished five layouts as of March 16. So, at that moment I was still "on schedule". I'm not anymore right now, but that's due to the fact that I've also finished one mini album and I'm currently working on another mini album. And mind you, mini albums weren't included in my goal and I don't count the pages in my mini album as layouts for my goal. So this will be interesting :)

15. Have fun

You have to enjoy what you’re doing. After all, you are chronicling your family’s story. You don’t need to work in any prescribed order, scrap the pictures that inspire you. I personally enjoy being able to create things with my hands – enjoy the process
This is my main goal with scrapping! If, at any time, there comes a point where I don't like scrapping anymore, I'll quit it. Although I can't, for the life of me, imagine I'll ever get tired of scrapping. In my humble opinion:
~Scrapbooking is not a hobby, it's way of life~

Well, for now I'll leave you with these tips. If you have any more, please don't hesitate to share them, as we can all help each other out, right?

A funny thing: My visual DNA

Hey all,

On a blog I came across today, I found something called Visual DNA. It seemed fun so I decided to check it out, It turned out to be fun indeed! You pick images in certain categories and these pictures together form your visual DNA. Here's mine:

You can get a lot our of this. Let's "analyse" it!

Mood
According to: Imagini

I'm a DREAMER. I can be both calm and peaceful. And I like to feel free to explore my environment.I can be a little nostalgic and I love revisiting familiar places and memories. Wehn it comes to art I appreciate the natural beauty. I take time to soak up the nature favoring the coastline and countryside to the city galleries. As for music it's the soundtrack to my world. I've got to grips with downloading and my MP3 is at hand. It gives me focus and concentration. I might find it hard to switch off. My choice of treats show I love being a bit naughty. Being good all the time is boring. I've got a good sense of fun and maybe an infectious giggle.
Well, most of it is indeed right. Perhaps not the music part, but that's okay :) The rest seems to fit!

Fun
According to: Imagini

I'm an ESCAPE ARTIST. I love to be far away from my everyday life. I love the sun and like to live life at a slower pace than most - I know how to take things nice and easy. For kicks I like to switch off and immerse myself in another world. I'm a thoughtful and imaginative - I like to look at life from a different perspective. Cultured and creative. When it comes to holidays fun is top priority. I love to get out and see as much as I can: a chance to spend time with friends and family. It's
How did they know??? It seems as though they've taken a peek into my personal life (or perhaps my journal?). Okay, so they didn't. But it does all fit!

Habits
According to: Imagini

I'm a NEW WAVE PURITAN.Even if I have a healthy approach to life, I still have my little vices that keep me going. It's all part of the routine. I'm a creature of habits. Clean and pure, my choice of drink shows that on the whole I care about my health and I make sure I'm putting the right stuff in. As for the home, I have a very cool and contemporary taste and see myself as a bit of a trendsetter. I like my surroundings to be simple and stylish like me.
Okay, well I do indeed have certain habits, that part is true. And I do care for my health but with my chocolate addiction it's not easy to keep it in shape. However, the part of home is really incorrect. I chose the bed room photo because of the space it seemed to have. I really like to have space around me (see my Scrapstudio!). It's not a certain "trend" I'm looking for or trying to set......

Love
According to: Imagini

I'm a LOVE BUG. For me love is all about long-term commitment, it means devotion and tenderness. When I think of freedom, I think of being in charge of my direction. The open road and a full tank can take me pretty much anywhere.
This is all so true! I've found the love of my life in James and I do think this is for eternity! As for the direction.... I do like to be in charge, but I also like to go where the road takes me. Travel to where I don't know things. You see my point?

So, what's your visual DNA?

Happy Easter! & How to spend it!

Hey all,

I want to wish you all a happy Easter! I'm a religious person, as you might know. So the religious goal and history is not my peace of cake. But I do like the idea that this is some kind of beginning of Spring. It's all nice and things are starting to become colorful! That's another way to look at it, I guess.

How we spend this Easter Sunday
Since we don't have any children (or nephews or nieces) we don't have to hide easter eggs. Up until a few years ago I did buy Easter eggs for our parents and my brother as a treat, but since they're not all eating them I thought this was in a way a waste of time and money. So, instead of celebrating Easter with the traditional Easter Eggs (hunt), we invited my parents for diner last night and today we just did nothing. It's so wonderful to just do nothing for one day! We slept in, we had breakfast (well, what else should you do?) and then we just did more or less nothing. James took a nap at the couch and I have sat in the garden, next to the pond. I love watching the pond. You'd think at first it's something static, but it's soooo not! Just look at the fish, the frogs (we have a few new ones this year again!!!) and all the little organism and you know the pond is filled with life. And it's not the same for a few minutes. When you keep watching you'll see something new regularly. You see the fish doing crazy stuff, like eating with four of them on one spot (can't they spread out in the pond?), frogs popping up (trying to figure out if it's safe to bathe in the sun, perhaps), little bugs, flies and more. It's so full of life! I can spend hours watching the pond. And mind you, I didn't have the waterfall activated either!

So, it was a wonderful Sunday today! Let's hope the weather tomorrow is as good as it was today!

Whiskey is still with the vet.....

Hey all,

Yesterday late in the afternoon I took Whiskey to the vet again. James hadn't had the possibility to go in the afternoon earlier (he still wasn't feeling well), so I decided to go. Around 20:00h they called to say that they indeed did find blood in her urine as well. And there's still a "lump" in her belly. They want to make X-rays so that they can see if it's her blather or uterise or something else. To make sure she wouldn't get more stress, we decided to leave her there for this last night. This way they can make a photo whenever it comes in handy.

We hope to hear more about the problem this afternoon. I'll keep you updated!

BTW, Isolde, thanks for your support!

A sick rabbit

Hey all,

One of our rabbits, Whiskey, has lost parts of her furr. Now you would say that's normal in this time of year and I'd agree with you. However, she's lost much more then normal and we think she's very skinny. So, we took her to the vet yesterday. She couldn't find anything with our rabbit, but she advised us to keep her separated from her sister for a few days to see if her urine and feacies are correct. Whiskey got medication to improve her appetite and something extra with the same effect.
We put her apart last night and gave her some carrots. This morning it turned out she DOES have blood in her urine. We thought she didn't but due to the fact that Irish and Whiskey are in the same cage together it's hard to check. I'm glad we found this out. But now we have to go back to the vet. I hope we can go there this afternoon. The sooner we know what's wrong, the sooner we can help Whiskey.

We'll just wait and see. Talk to you later!
